Final climb, day 3…

Final climb, day 3…

Thanks Arturo

We met Leslie at the end of the day, who told us about her rides yesterday and today. While cranking like molasses up Vail Pass, she suddenly saw a guy wearing a CMC  (Children’s Medical Center) team jersey tailing her on her left side - and then felt his hand on her back, pushing her up the hill. Riding with one hand, he continued to push her for about 5 minutes, over some of the hardest verticals.

“His name was Arturo, and he was an angel,” she said. “He’d been riding up and down Vail Pass all afternoon helping struggling riders!”

Turns out, Arturo is a master cyclist from Peru who is married to Gini, a woman who works at Children’s Medical Center (also a strong rider). When Leslie mentioned how thankful she was for his help, Gini said, “That’s how we recruit new riders to our team!”

Along with Century day, today was also Family Ride day - and little wheels take longer. This mom and her two guys came in with the Century riders. Maybe they were the wettest?

Century riders today got the wettest… and had the fewest people clapping for their efforts by the time they made it in. So we clapped for them over our coffee.

She’s sticking out her tongue - in gladness for the end, I’m sure!

Thanks for braving the rains, Anna and Stacy!

Forecasters were predicting 3 inches of rain within an hour of lunch… so many riders opted for the sag wagons. We busted a move through to the end and got rained on just a bit, for the last half hour of the day. Not as bad (for us) as last year’s downpour, that’s for sure!
